Jeon Hyun-moo on hosting 'I Met a Psychopath': "My misanthropy is deepening"

I Met a Psychopath (내가 만난 사이코패스) premieres July 12 at 10 PM on MBN and SBS Plus with Jeon Hyun-moo as host.

It's his first time MCing a thriller-genre program since his debut. The show blends anthology drama reenactments of real cases with talk segments and expert analysis, all centered on actual encounters with psychopaths, sociopaths, narcissists, and other antisocial personalities.

Jeon felt the subject demanded his attention. "Stories that would only appear on 'Surprise' in the past have become so common that many people feel fear and anxiety," he said. "I thought we should approach this issue, which has now deeply penetrated into daily life, a bit more seriously."

He traced part of the problem to how we consume media now. Legacy outlets once gave everyone the same information. Now, with fragmented platforms and individualized feeds, more people operate without empathy—prioritizing only their own emotions. (He laughed while admitting he sees it in his own circle.)

The cases themselves sound outlandish. Yet they're far more familiar than viewers might think. "You'll probably feel a chill down your spine as you realize this has become very popularized and spread deep within our lives," he said.

There's a cost to making it. "The fatal disadvantage is that I fundamentally stop trusting people." He's compensated by spending more time with Sunmu, his rescue dog. "My misanthropy is deepening."
