Nam Bo-ra delivers son via C-section after amniotic fluid complication, still plans up to four children

Nam Bo-ra announced on June 17 that she gave birth to a son on the 15th — but not the way she had planned.

The actress, born in 1989, had publicly stated her intention to deliver without epidural or induction. She clarified ahead of the birth that naturalistic delivery, in her case, meant "not using injections" rather than a home birth. The plan fell apart at her final prenatal checkup. "At the last regular checkup before delivery, there was no amniotic fluid, making natural delivery and induced delivery impossible," she said. A cesarean became necessary.

She described the moment she got the news: "I cried at first, but thinking of Kong-al, I pulled myself together and entered the operating room, and at 8:24 PM I was able to meet Kong-al." Kong-al was the nickname she used for the baby during pregnancy.

Actress Park Seul-gi offered congratulations: "More unexpected things will happen in the future, but recalling the memory of delivery will help you remain composed. You worked so hard."

Nam Bo-ra married a same-age businessman in May of last year. She has spoken openly about wanting a large family. On KBS 2TV's Shin Sang Chul Si Pun Sutorang, she said the number she and her husband agreed on is four. She grew up in a big household and considers it the best way to live, though she acknowledged the uncertainty: "Since I'm of advanced maternal age, I'm not sure" how many will be possible.
